‘Move Over Darling’ was first released by Almighty on 12” vinyl in 1991. Linda Taylor – who Almighty originally contacted after she featured in an advertisement for Pretty Polly Tights – was a key vocalist in the early days of some of our releases and also performed on many of the Abbacadabra recordings.
The original version was recorded by Doris Day, for the 1963 film ‘Move Over, Darling’ which starred Doris Day, James Garner and Polly Bergen. This theme song, written by Doris Day’s son, was released the same year as a single and spent 16 weeks in the charts. It was then covered in the mid-80’s by Tracey Ullman which also spent 9 weeks in the charts and had further chart success around the world.
Our own Linda Taylor version, was a popular vinyl release through the 90’s and more recently had ‘Dean’s Delicious Mix’ featured on our digital album Gay Anthems: Free, Gay And Happy, which has noticeably been one of the more popular tracks from a superb track list!
This digital single has been remastered, to include the original A-Side ‘Dance Mix’ as well as the ‘Mighty Mix’, ‘Dean’s Delicious Mix’ and an instrumental. It also features new heritage artwork, bringing back the look of the original Almighty vinyl label designs!
