Without Abbacadabra, Almighty might never have happened - it's also fair to say that without Almighty, ABBA classics remade to a disco beat equally might not have happened. It was a brainwave that the newly formed independent dance label had in 1992 - take ABBA's biggest smash hits and rework them for the dance floor. It more than paid off. Before this time, only the European produced Stars on 45 had ventured into the ABBA covers market with any success. That was until Pete Waterman heard Abbacadabra's brilliant version of 'Dancing Queen', later releasing it on his PWL label. It entered the national charts in the UK and was ultimately licensed to many compilations enjoying sustained sales in many countries around Europe. That was the start of big things for Almighty and it kick started the global assault of Abbacadabra! In fact, over the last ten years, five albums and fifteen singles, this often faceless and at most times 'secret' studio dance act have proved to the world that they possess a real edge of quality production and an enduring pop appeal almost as widespread as the original Swedish superstars. But with ABBA's originals still, to this day, never having been remixed - DJs, ABBA enthusiasts and fans of great music the world over, can once again rejoice in the magic of ABBA.
Abbacadabra have been far and away Almighty's most succesful act and similarly, as with the Swedish supergroup themselves, 'Dancing Queen' has been their biggest ever seller. This song just never goes away. It has to be THE ultimate party tune - from weddings, funerals, birthday parties, Christmas parties, gay discos, single's clubs, 70's theme nights, Trash parties, under 18's clubs to over 18's clubs - 'Dancing Queen' is always on the playlist, gets requested and is THE one that gets everyone up on their feet and swinging their hips! It also often appears in polls and interviews as people's favourite song. It is in the USA that Abbacadabra have really achieved the greatest commercial achievement. The popular remix team Love To Infinity helped 'Dancing Queen' become a huge club hit in the US in 1998 while the act were signed to BMG/Ariola. It all happened too soon really in the US. Only with the huge campaign behind the now touring 'Mamma Mia' musical and the launch of Swedish pop group A*Teens (doing ABBA covers) did the country sit up and think 'Hey, ABBA really were great'! Before which time ZYX in Germany had introduced Abbacadabra to mainland Europe. It didn't stop there either, soon the all-important Asian market picked up on the Abbacadbra phenomenon with the mighty Toshiba EMI shifting hugely impressive numbers of units, particularly with 'Dancing Queen'. It really is massive in EVERY territory! The Abbacadabra version of 'Dancing Queen' has been licensed to many companies all over the world, including majors Toshiba EMI and BMG. These labels were able to use the Abbacadabra release instead of the original ABBA! It seems wonderfully ironic that in 2006 that Abbacadabra has come home to Universal, the global distributors of ABBA - once again of course, 'Dancing Queen' is outselling them all.
Now, nearly 15 years after Abbacadabra's 'Dancing Queen' was produced, and with demand still strong for the dance mixes, Almighty present a special maxi double CD of ALL the mixes covering this period plus a brand new mix.
